During manoeuvring to a loading berth, a 2 year old LPG Tanker suffered total failure of her MAN B&W Alphatronic M/E & CPP Remote Control System, causing a minor collision with another vessel.

We were requested to attend immediately to investigate and hopefully rectify the problem so that she would be released to sail the following day.

There were no spares on board the ship and none available quickly.

The damage was severe but we had no alternative but to remove the defective PCB to our workshop for evaluation and possible repair.

We completed repairs to the PCB overnight and returned the following morning to refit and re-commission the system.

In total, the repair took 18 hours from diagnosis to re-commissioning and successful trials alongside resulting in no delay to the vessels' schedule.
