Design
of a replacement automatic control system for an Intermediate
Bulk Container (IBC) Bag Testing Machine for Structure
Flex Ltd. Structure Flex produce a range of bulk containers
for use in the food, pharmaceutical and chemical industries
and due to increasingly stringent customer quality control
& regulatory requirements, are required to load test
production samples.
They
also required an in house test facility to evaluate the
performance of new products under development.

| Their
existing machine required upgrading as there was no automatic
control system (only manual control was possible) and was
no longer operating reliably and accurately. MJR Controls
were commissioned to design, install and commission a replacement
control system to enable fully automatic application of predefined
test procedures to meet both customer requirements and the
latest British and European Standards.

A
PLC based control system was designed and a user friendly
HMI used to present test load test data from the machine load
cells to the operator. The system software includes "recipe"
style test selection and allows the operator to select from
a menu of different types of cyclic load and loading to failure
cycles with fully programmable test load and number of cycles.
The new system allows the operator to set up and run an automatic
and unattended test with the system automatically giving a
pass or fail outcome. |
